Is there any assistance available for flood-affected tenants and landlords in NSW?

After the recent flooding across parts of NSW, many tenants are returning to flood-damaged properties and facing decisions on finding a new rental or temporary housing. If you are a ...tenant or landlord, NSW Fair Trading has protections that can help. If the property is destroyed or becomes totally or partly uninhabitable, the landlord and tenant can mutually agree to end the tenancy. If no agreement is possible, the tenant or landlord can give a written termination notice to end the tenancy immediately or on a specified date if the property is unliveable. Another option is that the tenant and landlord can also decide to formally end the agreement and re-sign a new agreement after the repairs are complete.
