TBA

Mandatory continuing professional development (CPD) for Queensland property professionals commences on 6 June 2025.

The QLD Office of Fair Trading require that all property agents must complete two (2) approved CPD sessions each year to keep your licence or registration. You must do this if you are a:

  • real estate agent
  • real estate salesperson (including property managers)
  • real property auctioneer
  • resident letting agent.

Exemptions
You do not need to complete CPD training if:

  • your licence was first issued less than 12 months ago – you only need to start CPD 12 months after your licence was first issued
  • your licence was deactivated for most of your CPD year
  • you hold a limited real estate agent licence for affordable housing or for business letting
  • you represent public sector agencies or you are an official with a licence under the Property Occupations Act 2014.

You can also apply for an exemption for any given year if you cannot complete your CPD due to exceptional circumstances. To apply, you must provide evidence of the exceptional circumstances with your application to renew or restore your licence or registration.

Exceptional circumstances are both unforeseeable and unavoidable. Failing to plan or manage your time is not considered an exceptional circumstance.

The CPD year
Each agent’s CPD year is based on the date your licence or registration was issued. This means your CPD year is specific to you. Any CPD you complete before your first CPD year starts will not count towards your mandatory requirements.

CPD Calculator
In this first year of CPD in Queensland, your year commences at your first renewal date after 6 June 2025.  A few examples are:

  • if your licence/certificate issue date was 6 June 2024, your CPD year commences on 6 June 2025 and you must have your CPD completed by 5 June 2026
  • if your licence/certificate issue date was 25 September 2020, your CPD year commences on 25 September 2025 and you must have your CPD completed by 24 September 2026
  • if your licence/certificate issue date was 30 January 2025, your CPD year commences on 30 January 2026 and you must have your CPD completed by 29 January 2027

There is a CPD Calculator on the QLD Office of Fair Trading website.  If you are unsure, go to the calculator and enter the date that your licence/certificate was first issued, to see when you must have your CPD completed.

Approved CPD Sessions
Only approved CPD sessions will count towards your two (2) mandatory CPD sessions.   You can choose to complete:

  • a Type 1 session and a Type 2 session or;
  • 2 of the Type 1 sessions

Type 1 CPD Sessions
Type 1 sessions are designed to promote and improve core skills.

A Type 1 session is either:

    • an accredited unit of competency delivered by a registered training organisation (RTO) in the following qualifications
      • CPP40521 Certificate IV in Strata Community Management
      • CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice
      • CPP51122 Diploma of Property (Agency Management)
    • an approved, condensed ‘CPD version’ of 1 of the above units delivered by an RTO or industry body with at least 2 years’ experience training the property sector or a government department.

Type 2 CPD Sessions
Type 2 sessions are designed to promote and improve industry-relevant skills. They are not based on the property training package units of competency. QLD Office of Fair Trading will publish a list of approved Type 2 sessions on their website.

Proof of Completion
As required by QLD Office of Fair Trading, you will be provided with a Certificate of Completion as proof of your successful completion of your CPD requirements. This will be in the form of a Statement of Attainment for a Type 1a session or a CPD Certificate of Completion for all other sessions.

Agents are required to keep the proof-of-completion document for 5 years and produce it to Office of Fair Trading inspectors upon request.

Testimonials

“I always find ACOP training informative and enjoyable to attend. I especially enjoy the interactions and knowledge gained, not only from the trainer but also the other students”
Kathryn Ryan

Hi Rosy and Team,
I just wanted to write a short note to thank you for the recent CPD training that you did at our office in country NSW. As always the content was up to date, relevant and Rosy is an incredibly engaging and knowledgeable presenter with a lot of useful tips in day to day agency practice. Everyone in our office, from staff that had not long joined us, to others that have been here for many years all took something away from the training. Also I wanted to say that from the moment of contacting the College to arrange the training, through the enrolment process, and finally the provision of our certificates, the team at your office were polite, friendly, helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Thanks again”
